The Club's Annual Construction Competition was revived last week after a lapse of many years. There were three entries for the judges to consider, a joint entry from Kelvin M0EBU and Graham M0GCR, and individual entries from John 2E1FUQ and John G4CZB. Kelvin and Graham had worked hard over the summer to produce a fully mobile 12m pneumatic mast complete with generator, fuel, antennas, a 2m rig, and food and drink, all stowed neatly in on-board cabinets. This set-up, nicknamed 'Lola', is primarily for emergency RAYNET use, but has already been successfully trialled in the club's SSB Field Day entry this year. John 2E1FUQ had constructed a 'Tiny-Trak' which is used to automatically locate and track the user when connected to a transceiver and activated, and again is for RAYNET use. John G4CZB submitted a QRP transceiver for 80m CW.

After long and careful consideration, the judges decision was that all three entries were of merit and the points allocated to each were very close, but that the joint entry from Kelvin and Graham was ahead by a narrow margin, and a worthy winner of the Construction Competition for 2009.
